About Us | Plantation Shutters Ltd

Our History

Plantation Shutters Ltd was established in 1982 and is proud to be the first shutter company in the UK. Robert James took the company over in 1995 and since then the company has grown to be one of the UK’s largest suppliers of traditional interior louvred wooden shutters.

The shutter market has changed dramatically, in 1995 there were 3 or 4 companies selling plantation shutters. Most of the product was manufactured in the States and imported, which at the time was the only choice that any of us had. Since then the shutter manufacturing progressed to some companies manufacturing in the UK and some in various countries around the world. The UK manufactures were on the whole very proficient but lacked a truly large scale operation and the research and development necessary to really grow the shutter market in the U.K.

Looking for the best value for money in the market?

In 2003 Shuttercraft (now called S:Craft ) was set up as a wholesaler bringing in shutters from the largest manufacturer in China, who at the time had approximately 3000 personnel with unlimited resources and the infrastructure and investment in equipment which was hard to beat.

From this point the UK shutter market was properly reborn, however, one thing hasn’t changed throughout these years, that is the fact that Plantation Shutters Ltd is still very much the UK’s leaders in the shutter market. As a group we have over 35 years of experience, but individually we have many long standing highly regarded members of staff who have been with us for over 20 years.
