Going back to work may mean you no longer have the time to completely renovate your home, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a bit of a refresh. Each new season provides the perfect opportunity to redesign your home a little and Autumn is quickly approaching. With the kids back to school, you back at work and the fact we’re almost on the run up to Christmas (it’s September, we’re now officially allowed to say the C-word) you may find it impossible to find the time for a refurb.
Don’t worry though, we’ve got you! We’ve thought of five small ways you can breathe some new life into your interiors, without a total renovation, without breaking the bank and without spending hours scrolling through Pinterest or cutting up interiors magazines.
If you’re really strapped for time or cash, then adding accessories into your room is a sure-fire way to breathe life into a tired room or create a completely new style. Go for clashing prints and bright colours for a pop art, contemporary style. Add potted plants and animal prints for a tropical vibe or think about geometric shapes, faux-fur and minimal designs for a Scandinavian inspired look.
Add a splash of colour
Painting what was once a plain wall a new colour can completely transform the aesthetic of a room. Go bold if you really want to stand out or choose a complimentary, soft tone for a more subtle look. If you’re not quite ready to get the paint rollers out, it’s easy to create a similar style by adding colours in other ways. Why not add coloured cushions, a wall hanging or even splash out on a new piece of bold furniture.
Make a statement
Creating a new focal point in a room can completely transform a space and give it a different feel entirely. Whether it be a new piece of furniture, rearranging items you already have or bringing something in from another room in the house- you’re guaranteed to find something that will work for you. Try adding in a new piece of artwork or a statement piece of furniture and see how it gives the room a new lease of life.
Bring in the outdoors
Adding plants to your interior gives a breath of fresh air to any room (literally); it changes the style, adds life and can fill space- making the room look more put together. Utilising the bright green of leaves or colours of blooming flowers can add an entirely new colour palette to have fun with. Have a play around with vases and pots and opt for copper and raw materials for a contemporary finish.
Light it up
When it comes to interiors, lighting is often left to the wayside. Making a small change to your home like adding in a new lamp, or even changing your current lightbulbs can create a huge impact to your space. Opt for warmer, orange toned bulbs in living rooms for a cosy look and go for softer, natural light for the bedroom. Play around with strip lighting or even add a neon sign- which are totally on trend right now. Don’t forget to have a refresh of any lampshades around the house as well.
