We have collaborated with the team at Yo’s House to supply custom-made shutters for their stunning properties across London. In this Q&A, they share their journey, design philosophy, and the role shutters play in their exceptional homes.
- 1. Can you tell us a bit about Yo’s House and how it came to be?
Yo’s House was founded by Youcef, who started by purchasing properties in Harrogate and putting them on the rental market. He quickly realised he could help other landlords and went the extra mile to ensure every detail was considered, focusing on the unique needs of guests. His commitment to enhancing guest experiences has led to thoughtful touches like bespoke toys, curated vinyl collections, and extensive book selections in the properties we manage.
A year later, the company expanded to London, where landlords sought help with interior design and refurbishments. This is where Hannah, our Creative Director, comes in. With her natural eye for design and experience at multiple award-winning interior design firms, she brings a wealth of knowledge to creatively lead Yo’s House.
Together, Youcef and Hannah have transformed Yo’s House into a leading interior design studio and property rental platform, dedicated to creating exceptional luxury holiday homes and providing guests with unforgettable experiences.
- 2. How would you describe the signature design style of Yo’s House?
At Yo’s House, we embrace a colourful and diverse design style across all our properties. We love incorporating unique, bespoke elements and luxe finishes, making each space bold and eye-catching. Our goal is to create homes that stand out on holiday rental sites, inviting guests to dive into the special atmosphere of each property.
- 3. How do you manage to create a sense of place and personality in each property, while still maintaining the brand identity of Yo’s House?
At Yo’s House, we focus on creating bespoke designs for each property, which allows us to cultivate a unique sense of place and personality while staying true to our brand identity. By incorporating custom elements—like handcrafted beds, sofas, dining chairs, cushions, and specialised joinery and kitchens—we ensure that every project stands out and offers something unique that can’t be found elsewhere. This attention to detail gives each property a distinct character, while still reflecting the core values of Yo’s House.
- 4. Shutters are often featured in your designs. How do they complement the overall aesthetic of your properties?
Shutters are a fantastic design element that enhances the overall look of our properties. They bring character and charm, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Personally, they remind me of holiday stays in grand French châteaux, evoking the comfort and nostalgia we want our guests to feel.
Having shutters in every room adds an elegant, cohesive feel throughout the property. They introduce texture and depth, breaking up large surfaces and adding visual interest. Plus, they can be customised in color and material to match the property’s theme, whether modern or traditional. Shutters also offer functionality, allowing for controlled natural light and privacy while maintaining style. Overall, they strike a balance between beauty and utility, making them a perfect complement to our designs.
- 5. How do you view the practical benefits of shutters in terms of privacy, light control, and energy efficiency within the luxurious properties you create?
Shutters provide several practical benefits that align perfectly with our luxurious properties, especially for holiday rentals.
- Privacy: Shutters enhance privacy without sacrificing style, allowing guests to adjust their visibility and feel secure.
- Light Control: With adjustable slats, shutters give precise control over natural light, helping create the desired ambiance throughout the day—whether guests want bright mornings or cozy evenings.
- Energy Efficiency: Shutters help maintain comfortable temperatures by blocking heat in summer and providing insulation in winter, which can also lower energy costs
Given that our properties are intended for the holiday rental market, durability is crucial. Shutters are robust and withstand the wear and tear of frequent use, making them an ideal choice. Their combination of functionality, style, and durability makes them a perfect fit for our designs, ensuring that they meet the high standards expected in luxury rentals.
- 6. What’s next for Yo’s House—do you have any exciting upcoming projects or expansions you can share with us?
We have some exciting projects in the works! We’re launching a new project in Wimbledon before the year ends—it’s all systems go on that one.
We’re also starting on a remarkable property in the historic Wentworth Estate in Surrey, which will involve a complete refurbishment and a comprehensive interior design scheme. We can’t wait to see what our talented designers come up with!
Looking ahead, we plan to fully rebrand and launch our interior design studio in 2025, along with several other projects in the pipeline. It’s a promising and exciting time for Yo’s House!
