Get Your House Ready For The Warmer Months Ahead

As summer is slowly but surely approaching, it’s time to get your house ready for the warmer months ahead. Over the winter a lot of your home may have been neglected and will need some love. From the indoors to the out, we have compiled a list of things to get done before the summer officially arrives.

Clean and declutter your home.

It’s about that time to do a bit of ‘Spring Cleaning’. Get rid of everything in your home that you no longer need, put away all your winter clothing and bring out the summer gear. See if there is anything that needs fixing or replacing. It's always great to start the new season with new or refreshed things. No matter how much you keep your home clean over the winter, it’s never quite that clean due to the mud and dust you constantly bring in. As the weather gets warmer it’s a great time to do a proper clean of your home and get rid of all the mould, dust and dirt making it a safe and healthy place to live in once again.

Get your aircon checked

Service those air conditioning units of yours! There’s nothing worse than needing some cool air on a hot day and your unit is broken or full of dust. That’s why, before the temperatures get rather warm and make you feel like you’re living in an oven, you must get your air conditioner checked out to ensure it will keep you cool throughout the summer.

Revamp your yard

Let’s be honest, during the winter months your yard got a bit neglected. Dust off your lawn mower and give your grass a cut, pull out all the weeds, trim back the trees allowing new branches to grow, clean off your BBQ and freshen up your outdoor setting. Also, check that your hose is in good working order for when you need to water the garden or even cool off the kids. You could even think of planting some big shady trees. They will not only keep the sun off your home and help in cutting the cost to cool down your house, but they will also contribute to making the yard look inviting and create the best garden environment for you and your family to enjoy in the summer.

Clean the gutters and check the roof

During the winter the weather can be quite harsh with the rain and sometimes even snow. Checking your roof for any cracks, holes or missing shingles which might let water seep in is a great idea before the heavy spring rains come. It is also important to clean out your gutters from the autumn falling leaves. Cleaning the gutters can be a tough job but it will pay off in the long run. Be sure that the water in the down pimps aren’t blocked and flowing nicely to prevent water build up on the roof and seeping through to your ceiling.

Install Shutters

Another item that can contribute to helping cut on the cost of cooling the home are plantation shutters. If you thought you could get through a blog without us mentioning our shutters, especially when it comes to home interiors, you thought wrong. Shutters are an excellent and cost-effective way to lower those unnecessary and unwanted bills and reduce the heat coming through your windows. Don’t relinquish style and character in your windows with window treatments, by introducing shutters into your home, you can add and build to the style. Take a leap and move away from old fashioned curtain coverings and bring in a stylish and energy saving solution. And an added bonus is you can get our Aluminium Security Shutters fitted to your windows and have your windows open to keep the air flow coming through the slats into the room while have the shutters closed and locked, keeping your place cool and secure.

Plantation shutters visited my flat 20 January 2022 to measure, discuss slat size and material, and give me a free estimate which I was happy with.
