We know that accidents happen and over our 40 years we’ve come across our fair share of naughty animals, children and occasionally even adults that have caused some damage to shutter slats. As a sturdy and long-lasting product, we’re always surprised when a slat has managed to become damaged but, as they say, when there’s a will, there’s a way!

If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having one or more broken slats in your shutter panels then here is a guide of how to replace the broken slats to make sure they look good as new as soon as possible.

1. Order the slat

Just like every part of your beautiful shutters, slats are custom made to exact and unique dimensions for a perfect match to the rest of the shutter. This exact customisation means that whenever parts are required they need to be ordered direct from the factory. The lead time remains the same whether a whole shutter or a single slat has been ordered, so reporting a broken slat as soon as it happens is always recommended to reduce the wait time as much as possible. To order a replacement slat, simply reach out to our friendly team who will guide you through every step.

2. Make sure you have all the equipment is ready

Whilst you are waiting for your shutter slat to arrive within the lead time, you can prepare for its arrival by ensuring you have all the necessary equipment to hand. If fitting the slat yourself, here’s a list of things you will need;

– Pliers

– Thin, sharp, putty knife

– Sewing needle

– Wood glue

– Replacement louvre

– Replacement louvre kit (arrives in the slat box)

3. Read the instructions clearly

Your replacement slat will come with a kit of parts full of all the pieces that is required to fit it successfully along with some instructions. We have also put together an accompanying guide of how to swap the slat out so even non-confident DIY-ers should be able to undertake the swap with ease. Careful following of these instructions will make for a seamless changing of the slat.

4. Replace the slat with care

 When fitting your replacement slat, take great care to ensure that no further damage happens to your replacement part or no other section of the shutter is affected. If you go to replace the slat and find that you are experiencing some difficulty or would rather leave it in the hands or one of our experts, for a call out charge we are able to book in a member of our expert fitting to call out and see you.
