If the classic look of plantation shutters doesn’t quite suit your style, solid panel shutters could be the perfect solution. While shutters are ideal for spaces where you want to enjoy natural daylight while maintaining privacy and then block out light entirely in the evening, solid panels offer a different, yet equally functional approach.
Solid panel shutters work best for those who prefer a clear distinction between open and closed settings. When opened, they allow abundant natural light to flood the room, using the entire window space to brighten your interior. When closed, they provide darkness, perfect for privacy and restful evenings.
These shutters are particularly suited to contemporary homes. They add a touch of sophistication with clean lines and versatile colour options, from soft pastels to modern off-whites. In the right setting, solid panel shutters make a stunning design statement that enhances both form and function.
What customisable options can I add to solid panels?
Our solid panel shutters have a wide variety of 23 colours and 27 stain finishes. The panels are made in our full wood material – Pearlwood, which is our lightest wood. This range offers a Custom Colour Matching option allowing you to have your shutters in your favourite colour. It is a very elegant product.
Ring pulls, handles and locks are also available as added extra accessories for your solid panel shutters.
Another alternative to not just having solid panels the whole way would be half solid shutters. These are best of both worlds. Each panel has a solid raised lower portion with adjustable louvres above. These shutters are a great option for partially glazed doors.
Benefits to having solid panels
- It is a stylish way to block out unwanted light
- An excellent insulator adding an extra layer at your window to help reduce heat loss
- A great choice if you have big glass expanses like sliding patio doors
- They give older homes a lovely traditional finish
Are solid shutters more insulating than plantation shutters?
With fewer gaps by design than louvred shutters, the insulating qualities of solid shutters are improved however all shutters are great for adding an insulating layer to the windows. If you’re looking for temperature control and not just insulation, louvred shutters enhance that temperature control as open slats allow a breeze to pass through closed shutter panels whilst a window open. This is not possible with solid shutters where panels need to either be completed open or closed.
