Spanning over 12 months, this ambitious project involved designing and installing bespoke shutters for over 200 windows for newly built homes across a residential development. This milestone represents the perfect blend of precision, collaboration and highest standard craftsmanship – the qualities that define every project we undertake at Plantation Shutters Ltd.
Bespoke solution for every window
The project began with an initial site visit by the Plantation Shutters Ltd owner, Rob James, who met with the main contractor, client and architect to discuss the design requirements and ensure full compliance with onsite safety policies. Each window presented its own unique requirements, from varying dimensions to different structural specifications. One of the early challenges was determining how to accurately measure and manufacture shutters for windows that were not yet installed or even made yet. Through careful planning and open communication, precise working tolerances were established, allowing our production to begin confidently and accurately.
Precision
Precision and collaboration were vital when ensuring window frames are manufactured to exact specifications. Our team worked closely with the clients to ensure that the shutters not only fit perfectly but also complemented the overall aesthetic of the properties.
The real skill lies in the contractor’s and architect’s understanding of the millimeter tolerances required for frame construction, which enabled the seamless production of bespoke shutters. It’s both an art and a craft. The art is recognising the level of accuracy needed and communicating it effectively to the workshop. While the craft lies in the skill of carpenters who execute those measurements consistently and carefully.
This shared understanding allowed us to manufacture hundreds of shutters that fitted flawlessly even in a development where no two windows were exactly alike.
