Our Visit To Grand Designs Live 2019

We have closed the door on another year of Grand Designs Live. Each year it keeps getting better and better. We love that we are able to attend each year. London Excel is the perfect location for it too, with its massive function space that stretches over 100,000 sqm. making for plenty of room to explore everything home, garden and more.

As soon as you enter the great hall through a tunnelled entranceway, into the centre of the show, you are immediately welcomed by an overload of stalls with businesses showcasing their product. To your left, there was everything exteriors such as gardens and self or assisted build, in front of the Grand Theatre where you might be lucky enough to see Kevin McCloud answering all your burning questions. To the right, there is home interiors, electronic gadgets and the design arcade. Good thing you are given a show map when you arrive because otherwise, it’s hard to know where to start and what is available.

We couldn’t recommend an event like Grand Designs Live more if you are looking to renovate or just update your home or even your way of life. When we say they have everything there, they really do. From weekly make it yourself meal delivery deals like Gusto or Hello Fresh to large swimming spas from Hydropool and even tiny homes to live in permanently or temporarily when your renovating your house, no corner is left untouched, nothing has been forgotten or unthought of.

The common theme throughout the show was reuse, repurpose and upcycle, so much so that there was a whole section dedicated to it. There was a business that used old plane parts and turned them into interesting furniture pieces, one that uses old American Gas Pumps that were transformed into display cabinets or wine chillers and even one that took anything from instruments to petrol cans and old cameras and turns them into lamps. There were even people demonstrating how you can upcycle your furniture such as an old chest of drawers, making it look like a new item of furniture.

Grand Designs Live is a show not to be missed and if you’re looking for a big day out of home inspiration, ideas, demonstrations and even some freebies, then be sure to put it in your calendar for next year. Or if you can’t wait that long you can head to Birmingham NEC in October.
