Remember The Homes Forgotten Spaces

Do you often come across wasted space in your home and wish there was something you could do with that area? There can be a handful of unused and forgotten areas in your home that are crying out to be utilised. Improving these spaces can be easier than you think. With these few suggestions, your areas will no longer feel like they have been forgotten.

Hallways and Entryways

Usually left as a long corridor with nothing but maybe a picture here or there, hallways and entryways can be transformed into something more attractive, allowing it to fit in with the rest of your home. It is important for these spaces to feel appealing and welcoming as they are often the first impression of your home. Start off with a fresh coat of paint to liven up the space and then add a striking piece of art to hang on the wall. Liven up the floor with a captivating floor runner that complements the colour of the walls and furniture in the adjoining rooms, drawing the whole place together. If the area is a bit on the narrow side, try adding a large mirror to open it up and create the illusion of a bigger and brighter hallway.

Under The Stairs

The options for under the stairs are endless. Depending on how much space you have available under there, you could create a hidden playroom for your little ones or extra shelved storage for your linen, board games, cleaning supplies or even serving ware. Why not even use it as a chance to show off your wine collection or even start one with your very own wine closet with glass doors.

The Attic

Attics are often packed with old boxes, furniture and storage containers. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Well, its time to clear it out and turn it into something very cool and usable. You never know, it may become your favourite room in your home. It could become your new home office/playroom/hobby room. Build-in some storage shelves and cabinetry to store all your necessities in a stylish and tidy way. If you like things a bit more serene you can turn it into a meditation or yoga room with comfy furnishings such as cushions, beanbags and yoga mats. It can be a great place to escape to, to relax and reboot.

Extra Wall Space or High Ceilings

If you have high ceilings or extra space on your walls why not add some stylish storage. Turn an area by the door into a mudroom with hooks and cabinets to hang your coats and hide away your shoes. You could even get a little creative and add a cool cat walk for your furry friends to play on, getting them away from your feet. Or if you don’t have a cat you could place some house plants or pictures on the shelves to add your personality into your home.

Whether it be your entryway or attic, no area in the home should be forgotten about. Think about the space and how it can work for you. Get creative and remember to ensure it fits in with the rest of your interiors.
