Happy New Year and welcome to 2017, we trust you all had a pleasant Christmas break. We are now back ready to face another year. The new calendar year means fresh starts and new beginnings. We are looking forward to another year of plenty of beautiful shutters!
Here at Plantation Shutters, we are bringing in the New Year by sharing some international shutter inspiration with you. In a previous blog post, we looked at the origins of shutters, the earliest type of window dressing. Dating back to the 15th century, shutters were primarily used for protection against different weather conditions, as the glass was not yet a commodity. Early uses of shutters were also for controlling air ventilation in warmer climates and managing light. The prevalence and popularity of shutters can be seen internationally. The influence and style of shutters predominately coming from Europe and has subsequently spread to the new world and colonial settlements, such as the Americas.
