Start your weekend off with a bang!

What better place to be this Guy Fawkes Night, than the place where it all started over 400 years ago right here in London. From a failed Gunpowder Plot to what it is now, a magnificent display of colours, light and family fun all weekend long.

Originally, Guy Fawkes night started from the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a failed plan was set by a group of provincial English Catholics to kill the Protestant King James I of England and replace him with a Catholic head of state. Guy Fawkes was meant to be guarding the gunpowder under the House of Lords when he got caught and arrested on the 5th of November. Immediately King James’s council allowed the public to celebrate his survival with bonfires, so long as they were “without any danger or disorder”. Little is known of how the first occasion was commemorated by the general public, although records indicate that in the Protestant stronghold of Dorchester a sermon was read, the church bells have rung, and bonfires and fireworks were lit.

Here at Plantation Shutters, we are super excited about carrying on the age-old tradition and seeing the sky lit up with bright colours. You’ll be spoilt for choice with the many events going on from the ’90s themed nights to massive two-day festivals with plenty of food, drinks and entertainment to choose from.
