The Shutter Advent - Day 9 - Room Darkening Blinds

A room darkening blind is a honeycomb blind that sits behind shutter panels. The blind is discreetly fitted into the shutter frame and sits within the top of the shutter during the day to keep the room filled with natural light. When the room needs to be darkened, the blind is simply pulled down behind closed panels and slats closed which gives an effective darkening of the room.

For uninterrupted sleepers, shutters alone provide an excellent level of room darkening for a great night’s sleep as they are a customised solid fixture to the window area. However, because of the small tolerances required between slats and panels for smooth movement, there are some instances where the addition of a room darkening blind will be required.

A darkening blind can be a useful tool avoid the slight 'glow' around slats that a direct light source just outside the window can cause. These blinds are also favoured by light sleepers or shift workers who need the darkest possible room to sleep in at all times of day and are very popular for nursery or young children's windows.

Whilst the blinds can be retrofitted into a shutter at a later stage, this would require the framing to be changed out for a deeper selection which comes at a cost so it is always recommended the make this selection early.
