Here at Plantation Shutters, we do a lot of work with interior designers and property developers. Once again we worked together with Kia Designs who came to us with a property that they were doing a total redesign and refurbishment on. The property is in the much desired, well-connected area of Knightsbridge in Central London. It was a development merging two adjacent flats to create one home.
The reason for choosing plantation shutters? Kia explains that they "were the natural choice, being beautiful, hard wearing, easy to use and sturdy enough to cope with the sound and wind from Brompton road, and capable of blocking out the omnipresent Harrods lights in the evening." The clients wanted a modern, contemporary finish while keeping the art deco feel of the original façade of the building. Shutters seemed the perfect solution to merge the two different styles.
From bedrooms to bathrooms there was to be a theme throughout. Mattingley was the colour of choice with silver fixings combined with an in vogue yet traditional look of a 76mm slat with a tilt rod. With the classic full height with mid rail style, the finished shutters ooze class and old school 20s glamour, while keeping a modern touch with the wider slat.

Across London there are little pockets of art deco architecture so why not compliment the style of your art deco property with some plantation shutters. I’m biased but to be honest with you, art deco or not, they look great anywhere.
