Café Style Shutters

Café style refers to all shutters that don’t cover the entire height of the window; they are situated at the bottom half of the window and don’t go the whole way up. Sitting in a 3-sided frame, on either side of the shutters and the bottom of your window, these shutters are perfect for window where you would like some additional privacy but without covering the entire window.

What should I do if I want to add a top section later?

We would always recommend opting for either a tier on tier or full height shutter if you think you may like to add a top section later. Whilst it is possible to add a top section, the whole outer framing of the shutter will need to be replaced to support a top section so it will save money in the long run to initially opt for the tier on tier/ full height shutters from the offset.

Can I have café style shutters in my bedroom?

As your shutters are made to measure for you and your home, it is really your decision what style you opt for in each room. We would usually advise against café style shutters in a bedroom unless you plan to support these with another window dressing as with only the bottom section covered a great deal of light will be able to shine into the room.

Can I have café style shutters with curtains?

Yes, curtains and café style shutters work fantastically in both design and practicality. Although shutters also look fantastic on their own, aesthetically it looks great to match your café shutters with some curtains. Practically, having both offers enhanced versatility of light and privacy control. You can have your curtains open and shutters closed to increase privacy in the room whilst allowing light through or close both to restrict light coming into the room above the shutter and completely block the view from the outside.

How much privacy does a café style shutter offer?

The amount of privacy offered by a café style shutter really depends on how much of the window you opt for it to cover and how tall the buildings opposite are, if you can see them, they can see you! Most clients look to have a café shutter extend either half-way up the window or higher to match a natural divide in the window. If you are looking for complete privacy in a room, then opting for either our full height or tier on tier shutters may be a better option. If you are just looking for increased privacy at a street level, café style shutters are a great option for this.
