We recently fitted some of our Full Height shutters in a striking, modern sitting room in this home in Peckham just off the vast Peckham Rye Park. We think you can agree that it gives this room a very special finish to a warm space to just sit back in and relax.

A few months ago, a client gave us a call, looking for a window dressing option for their enormous window that looks in on their living room as well as two windows in their bedroom. Both of which were giving them issues with privacy and huge amounts of, at times, unwelcoming natural light. And of course, we knew we could help. So after a quick chat with our knowledgeable sales squad, we arranged a time, suitable to our client, for one of our highly experienced surveyors to pop by and have a chat about their options.

As you can see from this bay window, the street is incredibly close and with the window being so large, there would always be an issue with privacy from onlookers on the street and if the client had gone for curtains as an alternative, they would have cluttered up the little space that they had in the room. So our surveyor suggested that our client goes for our Full Height shutter style as it will give them the absolute privacy that they’re after but also that natural light that’s needed for any room with a dark décor as this.

And along with our clients understand that the window was very tall, to have Full Height shutter could run the risk of the space looking too plain and dull. So with that our client opted for a mid-rail at the exact middle point of the panels that really helped to break up the space that improves the appearance of the shutters in a huge way. But of course with this kind of choice, it’s very much down to stylistic opinion and we understand that every client is different.

And with the need for privacy, and due to the size of the window came the question of what slat size to go for? With these two parameters you can’t choose too small a size or the slats will over occupy the window and make it look like an oven grill, something our clients don’t want. And if the size is chosen is too large then when the louvres are open, the window looks entirely bare as the gaps between slats would be very large, so the shutters would end up being redundant. So with that, our client opted for the fashionable compromise of In Vogue which is 76mm in size that as you can see, looks stunning. And without tilt rods, the space in each of the panels is opened up that little bit more, but not too much, for that popular minimalist look.

With the style options picked, the client had to make a decision on the material they wanted to go for and they went for our fantastic material option of Hardwood which is made up of solid wood panels with MDF frames. Hardwood shutters are also an excellent option as they provide a plain rather than grooved stile, for a cleaner and simpler look. All our range is resistant to chipping, cracking, fading and warping, and so making all of our range of materials a very reliable and highly durable option.

With the physical options picked out by the client, next came the choice of colour for our clients proud set of shutters and with the room being made up of a darker colour scheme, our surveyor suggested that the client opts for a colour that evened out space rather than succumbs to one option. So with that out client went for our very popular colour choice of Pure White for the panels and White hinges that we all think looks incredible.

So with that, our client put the order through and within a couple of months, our great in-house fitting team arrived at the clients home and fitted their brand new made to measure shutters that were entirely personal to themselves and they couldn’t be happier with the result. We’re a little proud too.
