How do I schedule a shutter installation appointment?
How should I prepare for the installation of my shutters?
On the day of installation, there are a few things you can do to prepare, which will help us work efficiently and ensures a smooth installation process. We kindly ask that:
- the area where the shutters will be installed is clear
- any existing window dressings have been taken down
- your windows/doors are clear of wires, cables, or any other obstructions that may hinder the fitting of the shutters.

What is the shutter installation process?
Our expert fitters arrive promptly, equipped with vans loaded for the day’s installations. After navigating through the traffic and finding suitable parking near your property, our team unloads the necessary tools and equipment. Before beginning the installation, we assess the window area to ensure everything is ready for work to commence. Each job is unique, with lots of different window types available, our team adapts to the specific requirements of your windows, providing tailored solutions for your home.
What happens during your shutter installation?
- 1. Window assessment: Our team evaluates the window recesses and the type of window frame to determine the best approach for installation.
- 2. Area preparation: Dust sheets are laid down to protect your floors and furniture. Any necessary drilling holes are carefully measured and marked.
- 3. Shutter Installation: The shutters are meticulously fitted to ensure a perfect fit. Our team utilises power tools to securely install the shutters, ensuring they operate smoothly and effortlessly.
- 4. Shutter Quality Check: Once installed, we double-check that the shutters open and close smoothly and operate as they should. The area is then tidied, cleaned, and hoovered, leaving your room in pristine condition.
- 5. Demonstration: If you’re home during the installation, we provide a quick demonstration on how to operate, open and close, and care for and clean your new shutters. As a token of appreciation, you’ll also receive a complimentary ostrich feather duster to help maintain your shutters.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do the shutters take to arrive?
Our shutters will take approximately 10-14 weeks to arrive. As soon as we have delivery confirmation, we will be in touch to arrange an installation date that suits you. Special shapes and custom colour matches will naturally add to the lead time.
We also offer an express air freight option, which reduces the lead time to 6-8 weeks and is available for a surcharge. Please be aware that the lead time can fluctuate throughout the year, but we will always let you know what the current lead time is when you are placing your order.
What should I expect from my installation?

After the installation, we check everything is perfect and show you how to use and care for your new shutters. The transformation is immediate.
How should I prepare for my installation?
- Remove existing curtains, blinds or poles
- Clear furniture away from the windows
- Protect carpets or flooring if possible (we bring protective sheets too)
- Give the team space to work and access to your windows
Do you employ all your fitters?
Yes, we employ all our own fitters. With over 42 years’ experience, at Plantation Shutters Ltd you can expect a friendly, personalised service from our knowledgeable all in-house team.
What areas do you cover?
As the friendly company we are, Plantation would love to opportunity to come out to every property in the UK to share the Plantation experience. If we could, we would! Based in Battersea, South West London, we carry out a lot of work locally and within the neighbouring boroughs, often travelling further afield and organising the delivery of shutters to the entire UK.
Do you work weekends?
Our opening hours are Monday- Friday 8:30am until 6pm. Our team will do their best to schedule your measure appointment at a time and date that is convenient for you and will always be on hand to answer any questions you may have over the phone or via email.
Can I fit shutters myself?
We offer a supply-only option whereby the shutters are made based on your measurements and design specifications. They are then sent directly to you for self-fitting. Our DIY service is a great option if you live outside London but want a high-quality product with helpful and knowledgeable advice about the shutters. Other than that, we rarely recommend the DIY approach as it’s better to allow a company with the years of experience to do it for you.
