Our History
Plantation Shutters Ltd was established in 1982 and is proud to be the first shutter company in the UK. Robert James took the company over in 1995 and since then the company has grown to be one of the UK’s most reliable suppliers of traditional interior louvred wooden shutters.
In the early 2000s, the company made a strategic decision to move away from UK-based manufacturing and partner with a leading, forward-thinking manufacturer in China. Working closely with this partner, we developed products specifically tailored to the UK market, combining high-quality craftsmanship with innovation and scalability.
Today, this manufacturer is recognised as one of the largest and most advanced in the industry. While other companies have since entered the market and attempted to replicate similar products, they often lack the same level of experience, consistency, and technical expertise. As a result, although products may appear similar, the quality, durability, and finish are not comparable.
This partnership has been instrumental in establishing Plantation Shutters as a market leader, giving us access to industry-leading design, innovation, and manufacturing standards.
From this point the UK shutter market was properly reborn, however, one thing hasn’t changed throughout these years, and that is the fact that Plantation Shutters Ltd is still very much the UK leader in the shutter market. As a group, we have over 40 years of experience, but individually we have many long standing highly regarded members of staff who have been with us for over 20 years.
