As September arrives and we start to look towards the cooler months, it’s a great time to think about updating your windows and giving your home a fresh new look for the season ahead. Over the years, we’ve fitted thousands of made-to-measure window shutters in homes across London, and no two installations are quite the same. From the shutter style and slat size to the colour and material, there are plenty of ways to create a look that suits both your interior and the way you use your room.
In this blog, we’re taking a look at two of our recent favourite installations. Although both homes chose beautiful silk white shutters, the clients opted for very different styles to suit their individual spaces and requirements.
The first installation showcases hardwood tier-on-tier shutters, giving the clients greater flexibility over light and privacy across a large living-room window. The second features elegant café style shutters, chosen to maximise natural light while adding privacy and a stylish finishing touch.
Hardwood Tier-on-Tier Shutters
Our first installation features beautiful hardwood shutters in Silk White, with 76mm slats and no tilt rods for a clean, contemporary finish. The clients chose a tier-on-tier style, giving them greater flexibility over both light and privacy.
With the window taking up a large part of this beautifully decorated living room, it is the room’s main source of natural light and an important feature of the space. The clients wanted to give the room a modern update while still making the most of the light available.
Privacy was also an important consideration, as the window looks out onto a residential street. Our expert surveyor recommended tier-on-tier shutters, giving the clients greater control over how much of the window they wanted covered. The top and bottom sections can be operated independently, meaning they can let plenty of warm natural light into the room while keeping the lower part of the window covered for added privacy.
For this project, we recommended our hardwood shutter material, creating a premium and durable finish that works beautifully with the modern interior.
Café Style Shutters with 76mm Slats
This client chose café style shutters to maximise the amount of natural light coming into the room, while still enjoying the privacy that shutters provide. To enhance the look, they opted for our stylish Vogue 76mm slat size, which allows plenty of light through while creating a beautiful statement around the window.
Silk White was the perfect colour choice to complement the softer tones throughout the room. The result is a beautifully cohesive look, with the shutters blending effortlessly into the existing décor.
Practicality was also important for this family home. Our entry-level engineered shutter material is designed to resist chipping, warping, fading and cracking, making it a durable and long-lasting choice for everyday family life.
Choosing the Right Shutters for Your Home
These two installations show just how different shutter styles can be used to achieve different results. Café style shutters are a great option when you want to retain plenty of natural light while adding privacy, while tier-on-tier shutters offer greater flexibility when you want independent control over different sections of a larger window.
With a wide range of shutter styles, colours, slat sizes and materials available, your shutters can be tailored to complement your room and your individual requirements. Whether you’re looking to create a softer, more traditional feel or a clean and contemporary finish, made-to-measure shutters can completely transform the look and feel of your windows.
