We ventured into one of the most exclusive postcodes in all of London the other day to see interior designers Barlow and Barlow to help them with something quite special.

Just off one of the gems of London, Hyde Park and in between Bayswater and Notting Hill, a client of theirs needed shutters for a bathroom in a flat that overlooks the main road outside of the house, an obvious issue for privacy in a room that demands it. But as the bathroom is quite special, of course, they were after a design that demanded the same level of excellence and we had that to offer.

Their client’s white and bright bathroom has intricate design alterations that set it apart from most bathroom designs of that we’ve ever seen with inclusions like the gold lighting, towel rail and that marble finish. So, with this, they wanted something to add to this design.

The first thing you notice about the picture above is the colour. We have over 48 colour options to choose from as well as many stained options as well as a custom colour match option. Their client went for the warm Old Teak stained colour which looks utterly amazing against the whites of the room and adds a heightened level of comfort to the space which exactly what a bathroom needs. Furthermore, the inclusion of Antique Brass fittings adds to the rustic look and that, with the lights down low, we bet looks stunning.

And as this is for a bathroom, it made sense that the client would opt for Full Height as a shutter style as this covers the entire frame of the window and is a very private option. Full Height shutters are our most popular design style as they are versatile, iconic and tremendously robust design. Compatible with most windows, Full Height shutters are popular and suitable for any room in the house. And looks stunning in this bathroom.

With the window frame being very tall, our surveyor suggested a mid-rail to help break up the appearance of the window and really help with the clients hope for a classic and refined look. Another reason to have a mid-rail is to help support the panels themselves to avoid weight from impacting on the integrity of the frame.

With the choice of having a stained finish, the client went with Pearlwood as a shutter material. With bathrooms, we typically suggest our waterproof material, Waterproof for its durability in wet rooms. However, this material, because of its nature, comes in a very select number of colour options. This means that Barlow and Barlow’s client was adamant on having a stained colour that they chose a different material. All the shutter materials we offer are resistant to chipping, warping, fading and cracking making them an incredibly durable product. As these panels aren’t near a shower, there is no risk of serious water damage. The bonus of this material is that it’s lightweight so very manoeuvrable and a pleasure to operate.

When it came to the slat size choice for the panels, their client opted for our Classic size of 64mm. As one of our most popular choices, this size does exactly as its name suggests and provides a very classic look that has been used throughout the ages when it came to shutter panels. With more louvres per panel, open or closed, they let in far less light than the other sizes in our range and on top of that an extra level of privacy which is perfect for bathrooms such as this one. Having a central tilt rod included not only is a great cost-saving option but also provides a far more refined and classic look to a shutter panel.

And with these decisions locked in and the order complete, we sent off the specifications to our manufacturers in the Far East and a couple of months later their made to measure shutters arrived at our home in Battersea and we ran them off to their clients, flat and they were installed expertly by our in-house fitting team leaving the squad at Barlow and Barlow with a very happy client and an incredibly beautiful bathroom ready to be enjoyed.
